Flora Europaea micro-mesophanerophyte, Ph, 2n=34, diploid mesoxeric, calciphyle, saxicole, upper nemoral Central European-Balkan-Mediterranean Stipio pulcherrimae-Festucetalia pallentis, Seslerion rigidae, Spireetum ulmifoliae, Orno-Cotinetalia, Quercetalia pubescentis R3401, R3115-3117, 3123,3124,3127, R3460-3462 (if on calcareous rocks) habitats       A small tree very attached to calcareous rocks which is similar in many aspects and ecologically to S. aria, S. umbellata ssp. banatica, S. austriaca, S. borbasii and S. borbasii.
